The music of Shoujo Kakumei Utena is mainly composed by Mitsumune Shinkichi and J. A. Seazer with a few pop songs appearing throughout the series. Eight full soundtracks were released containing this music along with various other singles released by the pop artists.

Mitsumune Shinkichi

Mitsumune Shinkichi (光宗 信吉) composed the background music for the Utena series and movie. The style of these pieces is mostly orchestral and jazz influenced. Mitsumune also arranged J. A. Seazer's compositions in the first arc of the television series.

J. A. Seazer

Main article: J. A. Seazer

J. A. Seazer (J・A・シーザー J.A.Shiizaa) is the composer of the music that plays during the duels. These duel choruses are marked by a fusion of synth rock and a singing chorus. He also composed "Zettai Unmei Mokushiroku," a song that precedes every duel in the television series.

Opening Theme

The opening theme of the television series is "Rinbu Revolution" sung by Okui Masami.

Ending Themes

The first ending theme is "Truth" sung by Luca Yumi. Starting with "Futari no Eien Mokushiroku," the first episode of the third arc, the ending theme changes to a pop arrangement of J. A. Seazer's "Virtual Star Hasseigaku" sung by Maki Kamiya.

Movie

In addition to the background music of Mitsumune and duel choruses of J. A. Seazer, the movie includes an insert song sung by Okui Masami called "Toki ni Ai wa" as well as an arrangement of her "Rinbu Revolution." The ending credits feature "Fiancee ni Naritai" sung by Oikawa Mitsuhiro.
