Akio car

The Akio Car is a red convertible sports car which is prominently featured in the latter half of the series. Although it's given no name within the series, "Akio car" is the term used by fans as well as the title of a song which plays only during scenes in which the car is a central image. It first appears in episode 25 and nearly every following episode up to the end of the series. Akio is the only character who ever drives the car, though others have imitated him to some degree.

Appearance

The make of the car is never stated; however, it closely resembles and appears to be modeled on the Chevrolet Corvette C1. It's a two-door four-seater with a repeatedly objectified gear shift. The body of the car is red with gold detailing and hubcaps. The vanity license plate reads Ohtori prefaced by a red rose.

Car Rides

During the two final arcs, each member of the Seitokai (with the exception of Touga) is coerced into challenging Utena after a ride in the Akio car. Each ride ends in Akio's proclamation "Now I reveal to you, as well, the Ends of the World," followed by him flipping over the windshield to sit across the hood as the car continues along driverless.

Dueling Arena

The final seven duels feature several Akio cars protruding from the floor, as well as one which drives around the circumference of the arena. The Rose Brides of Utena and her challengers are frequently seen to sit in these cars during these duels. The end of the duels is accompanied by the sound of a car crash; in the case of Tsuchiya Ruka's duel, we actually see the crashed car, along with his injured Rose Bride Takatsuki Shiori lying in the wreckage.

Other Locations

The Akio car has the ability to appear in unlikely or physically impossible places. It has inexplicably shown up in the middle of the school campus and within the school's hallway. It can arrive at a destination without making any sound. A pyramid of stacked cars are shown within Akio's tower, acting as supports for the floor.

Imitations

During his ride in the Akio car, Miki imagines himself in the driver's seat, with Anthy in the adjacent passenger seat. Touga mimics Akio's car with a motorcycle and side-car.

Ending Credits

Episodes 24 and 33 feature a montage of scenes depicting only the Akio car during the ending credits.
